I remember my friend, a brilliant Kenyan writer, and I once walking the streets of London some years ago, and as he walked past beautiful after beautiful building he would point at one and say ‘this one was payed for by colonial loot from Kenya’ and he would point at another and say ‘this one was payed for by colonial loot from from Nigeria’. It was funny and a bit exaggerated but fundamentally not untrue. There is a link between the affluence of Europe and the poverty of Africa.

i don’t think there has ever been another book/series that had such an impact on my life as the dark tower series

which i realize sounds strange since it’s like… a spaghetti western inter-dimensional fantasy horror and the character i relate to the most is a middle-aged heroin addict from new york… but

okay my love for this series makes more sense in my head

it’s just so great and the characters are so raw and the story bleeds into real life and i just will never get over it

i still find myself really disturbed when i think about the lobster creature eating rolands foot…and its been decade(s?) since i read that book
